People Are Involved In The Discussions
This past week, our office hosted a follow-up in-person and virtual listening session on the Westside Area Plan (WSAP) in collaboration with LA County’s Department of Regional Planning (DRP). We are deeply grateful to DRP Director Amy Bodeck and her dedicated team for their responsiveness to the concerns raised by the residents of Ladera Heights and the surrounding communities.
Through this collaborative process, we’ve made significant strides in ensuring that the WSAP reflects the needs and priorities of our community. Key changes based on the feedback we received include the removal of Opportunity Site #1 (Centinela and Green Valley) and Opportunity Site #10 (Angeles Vista and Valley Ridge) from the plan, as well as the decision not to rezone along Spingpark Avenue and Fairview Blvd. Additionally, we have successfully advocated for lowering the recommended height limit for the Ladera Center to 45 feet (four stories), aligning it more closely with the community’s preferences. Currently, LA County’s portion of the Ladera Center is zoned for 35 feet (three stories).
It’s important to note that the WSAP is not yet finalized. There remains ample time for further adjustments to be made before the plan is presented to the Board of Supervisors for a vote in January 2025. We want to assure our community that all feedback is being carefully considered, and the comments shared during this phase have been instrumental in shaping the direction of the plan.
While this phase of public comments has officially closed, the conversation is far from over. There will be future opportunities for residents to provide input as we continue to refine the WSAP. We recognize and appreciate the concerns raised during the session, particularly regarding traffic congestion, parking, and the need for alignment with LA City zoning guidelines for the Ladera Center.
Your participation is vital to the success of this plan. As we move forward, we remain committed to ensuring that the WSAP serves the best interests of our communities. We encourage everyone to stay engaged and continue sharing your thoughts and ideas with us.
Together, we can create a Westside Area Plan that truly reflects the vision and needs of our neighborhoods.
